tucked in

i'm tucking my shirts in these days and lovin' it.  apparently my friends have already jumped on this circa '98 style revamp and didn't let me in on the secret. i saw an old friend over the Easter weekend and she was wearing a rosy pink silk short-sleeved shirt tucked into a fantastic pair of bootcuts (the kind with that old worn in look that look amazing on and are the perfect color denim not too dark, not too light) AND a dark camel colored 1" wide belt.  it blew my mind. i wanted to be HER! I wanted to run straight to Gap and buy a brown belt.  Who knew...

So this led me to "window shopping" around gap.com this morning and then on to banana and then on to my new favorite one stop shop piperlime.com.  Piperlime features Rachel Zoe's top picks and also a section for girls on a budget.  SO ME!

In this full digression into a whole new summer wardrobe, i decide i want Reese Witherspoon's style for my every day life. see below and tell me if she isn't the most perfect "30-something", cool mom style icon! so classy and preppy. me want me want!!

spiralling down i've made a "what i want right NOW" collage.  why can't i have a money tree in my backyard??

chursday, bebe

sometimes i go to write and all of the sudden have nothing to say.
my mind is a random hot mess. i've got it all figured out, but really nothing figured out.

i have great friends.
god is good.
babies are so sweet and scary. one of my co-workers who has been on maternity leave brought her baby up. it made me miss annie being that small, but then brought back way too many stressful thoughts and emotions. why? why can't i just let that go and recognize that it is normal, natural, and necessary. The hard work, sleepless nights, sadness, happiness; all of that to appreciate the good that came of it. i love being a mom. i think i'm really good at it. i love kids. but i'm scared to death about having another. i guess that's all i need to say about that right now. time will tell.
wine is delicious.
i love dainty, feminine little things. jewelry boxes with roses painted on them. pinks and reds. pearls. floral tea cups.. like those very very girly rooms you see in decorating magazines. i'm thinking i'm going all out for annie's big girl bedroom when the time comes.
am i the only person who loves country music? drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke? mmmm so good.

so much

this is what i look like
when daddy dresses me...
Good news, Annie is better. No more fever. She is back to laughing and playing and cooking and bossing the pups around. One day I know it will come back and bite me buuutttt I love when she points and says "no no no!". It makes me laugh. That little toot! I guess I'm just gonna love her. That's all.

Let's back it up to Thursday night when we got on the beltway at 7pm and pulled into my parents driveway at 12:15am!! And we stopped for gas. 5 hours people. That is why you let Anthony drive and just don't look over at the speedometer.
Friday we went to the aquarium. Annie LOVED it. And we loved watching her. Little miss independent out of the stroller walking to each exhibit by herself and pointing like to show us "oh mom, did you know this is an albino alligator and it came from dinosaurs and it eats..." You get it. She is 1 going on 10.

We took Annie to see her boyfriend, Grant. Then over to Cat's to see the classic, beautiful, soft, sweet, serene vision of a boy nursery come to life. Seeing Cat's belly and feeling that little boy kick....Just beautiful.
Friday night we went to our favorite restaurant Slice. The kitty came along with becca. Which was just niiiiiiiice. If you don't know kitty like we do, you are missing out. I miss her in my life.

Saturday and Sunday we chilled in Slidell. Boat rides, family, old friends, grannies-boo and pop pop, margs, cake, snicker eggs, the new porch swing. The Easter bunny goes hop hop hop.

Today we got our cabinets in the game room. They look so good! Can't wait to host the next play date! And get all those toys out of my living room.

The last two nights I've eaten a dinner of champions. Monday night was a beer and handful(s) of M&Ms while addressing Cats invitations. And tonight... Taco Bell while making flag banners. So much for this diet I was starting yesterday. And the cycle continues....

Ugh I haven't uploaded pics yet. I will soon.

P.S. Did you see our boys made front page? Holla!

catching up

easter weekend was so great.  i'll try to recap later today.

annie is sick... fever and one throw up.  she and dad are taking a sick day.  i've already gotten a video from anthony saying "annie and me are home sick today"...<<fake cough>> then annie did her fake cough too.  so cute those two...

here are some pictures cat took from saturday.  the appetizer if you will...

hear the tick tick bunny?

annie's favorite new bedtime book is "pat the bunny". just thought i'd share that.
this work day is dragging... i'm ready to be in sliddle. hanging on the back porch, watching the boats pass. it's going to be a real good feel good weekend, and i can't wait for it to start.

i just did a little no-no at work. i used the company color printer and printed 17 color copies for inserts in cat's invitations... oops. i had no other options... i'm picking up the invitations tonight and addressing/mailing them tomorrow. no other options. luckily i'm super fly and was at the printer by the time the last page was done. then a quick snip, snip on the paper cutter and back to my desk in less than ten minutes. i feel no guilt because i do actually do work around here which is more than i can say for most.

also someone is having a lunch meeting and ordered in BBQ. the aroma is circling the halls, my office, the kitchen, etc. i can't take it. i'm sitting here eating grass trying to ignore this glorious smell of meat taunting me. how can anyone be a vegetarian??

please hurry 5pm. my office in an attempt to "team build" is having "wacky Hawaiian shirt" day today. The prize is a half day off. not bad. but what IS bad is seeing all these men in probably what they wear every weekend. sick sick. their poor wives probably like it too. i should write a book about working with all men, all engineers.

and a little pic of my sweet baby girl.

a new art project i want to do is a silhouette picture of annie. using this picture.
like this.  and different backgrounds too. and silhouettes of the dogs. oh yes ma'am!

Party Pics from AJ's 30th

a sweet little deal

I'm almost scared to tell you the good fortune that has been bestowed on me. Today when I got home from work all of my laundry was washed, folded, and stacked neatly by color just waiting to be put away.
No, the maid did not come today. Actually she comes tomorrow. Ha. Dolly offered to do my laundry just because she loves doing laundry. For real. I felt sooo guilty at first, but I got over that the second I walked in the door.

I definitely don't give Dolly enough shout outs. She offers to babysit all weekend. Takes Annie for wagon rides before I get home from work. Cooks for us... So this is what it is like to have family living in the neighborhood. I'm not gonna lie, I feel like I could have five babies and still be super woman with her by my side.

Also another equally fantastic treat today was lunch with Gig and a brief shopping spree to anthro. That store is literally what my heaven looks like. I bought myself a few treats just to make up for the shitty day I was having at work. A black and white tunic from the sale rack and a initial coffee mug for AJ and a turquoise ceramic strawberry crate. Which is now looking great holding sponges at my kitchen sink.

Hmmm good good night.

what i want...

this second: a nutty mix-up salad from Jason's Deli, but i'm eating a panini lean cuisine instead. dieting is no fun.

this minute: to give jessica a hug (because i love her). i just got off the phone with her and we are so in-syn.  i know, i know, sooo typ.  but really, she will describe how she is feeling about life with her toddlers and it is like she is taking my thoughts and words right out my mouth..  i don't think she truly understands this. like exact same thoughts.

this hour: for everyone to update their blogs.  i love love love reading everyone's blogs.  it's like getting a card in the mail.

this day: to stop getting sidetracked at work, and finish a task.

this week: oooh so many things.  print cat's invitations, do laundry, and pack. just to name a few.

this weekend: enjoy, enjoy enjoy.  we will be in new orleans.  easter is my favorite holiday.  i love the candy, the pastels, little girls in easter dresses and hats. the ham (lol, i do), the fresh air.  i love easter.  i miss my mom.  i'm excited to see my family.  rub on cat's belly, go to Slice, maybe have a playdate with Grant, eat lots of CHOCOLATE, and go on the boat.

two baby sunday

sundays are the most fun.  well weekends in general are the most fun now that i don't have to study.  but sundays are like the icing of the weekend to me.... the usual routine goes like this. we wake up, sip a little coffee and watch a little mickey mouse.  then either go for a stroll or bike ride for Annie's morning nap, then we do brunch and sit outside and eat croissants and sip on more coffee.  then a little grocery store visit, a little afternoon playdate in the backyard, followed by someone in the neighborhood grilling something for dinner. and then an early bedtime.  and what really tops a great sunday is clean sheets, taking a shower before bed and drowning myself in cool citrus basil lotion with aveda foot therapy on my tootsies.

for the morning bike ride today we picked up sloane and biked to the park.  it was really fun for everyone.  then we went back to drop sloane off, but instead asked if she could come to brunch with us.  then that turned into an all day playdate with sloane.  so me, anthony, annie and sloane went to garden ridge and heb... and came back here and played.  now sloane is back home and annie is taking a much needed nap.
and as if that isn't enough fun for the day, the adults are going to a movie tonight and having Dolly babysit the girls.

washing your clothes

Great article my coworker sent me on how often you should wash your clothes. From realsimple.com.  (Complete side note: don't you wish your whole house could be redone by the contributors/editors of real simple? I love that magazine!  They suck me in every time.  How many times can I read how to organize my laundry room/pantry/closet?? Well put a picture on the cover with something coral and blue with fresh flowers in a tin can vase and you know I'll buy it.)
Who doesn't want their house to be this organized?..?..Just saying.

This is the article...
My office girl group and I were talking the other day about how our clothes just don't seem to last. Like those cute cardigans from Target, for example.  So low and behold we wash our clothes too much!!  I love this unclean life that is unfolding in front of me... hahahaha.
Happy Friday to ALL!

Germs

Germaphobia

a.k.a. mysophobia /my·so·pho·bia/ (-fo´be-ah) irrational fear of dirt and contamination.

I'm a "Chron-Mom" from The Houston Chronicle. Go sign up and receive weekly emails about fun activities for kids in the city and also popular local mom blogs. An ongoing topic that always seem to come up on mom blogs is germs.  Or toxins, BPA free products, microwaving plastic, etc.

Am I the only one who thinks that we as a society have taken this germ obsession to the extreme?? Don't get me wrong, I use antibacterial hand wash and believe in sterilizing a newborn's bottles. I am not however afraid to let me child eat dirt or nonorganic food, or let her role around in the dog bed or pick up a cracker off the back patio from the day before and eat it,  or not go to a playdate because the other kids have runny noses. Not to mention whatever else she touches and eats at daycare! I'm sorry... I just am NOT worried about it. Am I the crazy?? Not that I want Annie to get sick. In fact, I want the opposite.
One mom summed it up perfectly (in my opinion) by saying she was more afraid of her kids dying in a car crash. So true! Just like my OB/GYN told me about what to eat when I was pregnant..."there is a greater chance of you getting into a car accident on the way to the hospital to deliver you baby than harming the baby by eating a subway sandwich with deli meat."

In one of the blogs this week there was some good feedback from other moms who feel the same as me. So here are some clips from that blog.

"As a chemist who carried and brought to term three beautiful and healthy children while working in a laboratory, I'm more concerned that my children will die younger than they should in a car crash. This is the world in which we live. Science and technology has increased our life expectancy and, some would argue wih this, our "quality" of life...and if we're poisoning ourselves to the brink of extinction then science and technology will probably save us. If it doesn't, then we go the way of the dinosaurs and the next sentient spieces on this planet will dig up our bones...Provided the sun doesn't blow up first..."

I know the truth lies somewhere in between... If you want to obsess over germs, than more power to you. Everything in moderation. I'm just saying.
"[has] detoxification become a kind of collective anorexia, a way for mothers to refuse to live in a world we found too terrifying, another means of bubble wrapping our darlings?"

my little toot

Dear Tootie,

Did you know that I love you more than anyone can love a person on this earth? And that you are the sweetest little darling and that I can’t believe I got the bestest baby girl of them all.

Did you know I think about you all day long when I'm at work? I think about what you are doing on the playground this morning. Are you exploring and laughing and enjoying? Are you happy? Are you thinking of me and your dad? I miss you and can't wait to see your sweet smile when I walk in the door tonight.

Please know you are truly loved and special and unique and worthwhile.

Back to life

The big bad test is finally done. I won't know the outcome for another two months. So its ignorance is bliss mode until then.

Let us assume I pass this test. I am officially done with "bettering myself" for the next few years. As terrible as that sounds, I literally have no interest in being promoted, getting another certification, going back to school, etc. I want to just enjoy this time. Be lazy. Plan baby showers and birthday parties. Raise my family. Have more babies (2012 that is). And do my job and get my paycheck. The end.

Anthony's big 3-0 was a total success. I know I say this a lot, but I love our friends. I love exactly where we are in life right now. I love everyone's babies and unborn babies. I'll post party pics soon. I'm writing this in bed on my phone.

Filling out my scantron on test day...
Name: Nicole N Bruno
Sex: Yes, please

(what movie?) haaaaaa

P.S. CC if you read this pack your bag and come let me spoil you in Houston. Period. No, stop thinking and go get in your car.

"spelling it out" inspiration board

i like to print out famous quotes and tape them up in my office. "be the change you want to see in the world" or "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid". i leave them up until they are no longer applicable to my current mood, then put up the new inspirational quote of the moment.

two things happened to me simultaneously regarding this.
first, i got an email from my new favorite website/app houzz.com with an ideabook on incorporating this same concept into your house decor. little framed words of inspiration around the house that make you feel good. second, jess gave me the "practically perfect" dish towel for my birthday. also jess was telling me she really likes the "keep calm and carry on" poster (one of my favorites too, and one that has been on my office wall before). annddd i randomly stumbled across the designer's website who makes a lot of these "art quotes" that are featured in the houzz ideabook and also sold at my all time favorite store in Old Town Spring, "Thads". sugarboodesigns.com

my attempt at an inspiration board. did you know picasa lets you make collages in a snap...

i'm a chump..

i'm so embarrassed about yesterdays blog now because anthony and jessica completely made every birthday dream come true for me last night.  i was so down in the dumps about studying all day and i'm sure anthony was just laughing on the inside the whole time at me.

anthony made dinner reservations for 6:30 last night.  i asked if anyone was meeting us and he said no. so we get to the restaurant and to my surprise everyone i love in houston was there.  and jessica had decorated with balloons on every chair and paper fans as centerpieces with "29" on them.  everything/everyone was just wonderful.  food was delicious.  and i got to drink wine.  fantastic.

from around the table...
jennifer, maria, matt, carolyn, courtney, shala, dj, beth, charles, kaley, parker, ryan, john, sarah, josh, jessica, me, anthony, ms patrice, and mr bob.

then if that wasn't enough, we get home and when i open the gate there is beautiful beach cruiser bike with a big bow on it waiting for me!!!!!  I'M THE COOLEST GIRL IN THE WORLD!!
i can't say it enough.  anthony bruno is the greatest person on the planet.  i don't know how or why he decided to love me so much, but i'm thankful every day for it.

Thank you to my best friend Jessica, and all my h-town friends, and to Dolly and Scott for watching the babies and living around the corner.  And Anthony.  and my parents for birthing me.  the list goes on and on and on and on.
and thank you for my fabulous birthday presents.  wow wow wow.

the birthday truth

i should be studying but wanted to write something.  anthony and annie are taking a walk so annie can nap a little.
today is my birthday.
i hate my birthday. for the last few years i'm always sad on my birthday.  it just isn't what it used to be.  i want to be surrounded by my family and friends today.  laughing.  i want to unwrap a big pretty birthday present.  but none of that happens. instead i have to study today.  it is depressing.  i'm studying, anthony is watching the baby by himself, i'm feeling guilty for not spending time with them.
last night anthony stayed out late with the guys drinking with his guy friends while i stayed home alone with the baby.  saturday night and i'm home doing laundry.  how does that happen when its my birthday?  answer: because us girls all have babies or are pregnant and we can't just hang out until whenever with not a care.  it just isn't reality.  even if i said  hey girls lets get together saturday night... everyone would have to make some sort of arrangement as to who is going to help with babies.  but it is a double edge sword because we don't want to be away from our babies anyway.  if we do get together for an evening, in the back of our head we are still thinking we need to get home.
i'm just being negative because its my birthday.  and i'm old.  and i have to study. pity party in full swing.

ok positive thoughts.  positive thoughts.
i have a great life. i have lots of people who i love and love me back.  i have an amazing husband.  i have a beautiful girl.
this is on me.  if i want to do something for my birthday i should make it happen.  i should buy my own birthday present like anthony does. i am in charge of my happiness.  it is my choice whether to be happy or sad today.  i'm choosing to be happy right now. honor this special day with good thoughts and counted blessings.  i am so thankful to my parents on my birthday.  especially after having annie and thinking back on all we went through on her birth day.  birthdays are special and are a true celebration of life.  i need to do this day justice.

ok, back to studying.
