Nicole Bruno, P.E.

bebe shower done. on deck, TAHOE!

i'm soooo ready for vacation. ready to read a new book, sleep in, love on anthony, take in the beautiful lake and nature hikes, have spa day, fantastic food, lots of wine... i'm soooo ready!
i've been working double-time just so i can have things wrapped up and not leave a pile of work for my co-captain to do while i'm out.

i had such a great weekend in nola. catherine's shower was picture perfect and over the top. so much time and love went into making that shower magazine/blog worthy. and it was above and beyond! the girls all did such a great job pulling everything together. i got the bow tie idea from hostess with the mostess blog. i sent the idea to ms. lynn (cat's mother-in-law) and she took off running with it. from the bow tie cake, flag banners, bow tie toppers, to the ribbon sandwich flags, paper straws, bow tie cookies, whoopi pies... perfection. pictures do not do it justice. all for beautiful catherine. she absolutely deserved it.

also i must say the craft was SO EASY! i was very unsure of how it was going to play out. buying the fabric, ironing on the backing, cutting out the shapes, then ironing on to bibs. i just didn't know. BUT it was by far the easiest craft i've ever made. and it took about 30 seconds to girls to make them at the party. much easier and cleaner than hangers, painting, etc. it was like no commitment crafting. it was a big hit! and they turned out ADORABLE! Home run on that.

and a few of my favorites from cat's slideshow..

annie was shy at the shower, but started getting better as the crowd died down. and she says "CiCi" now. haha. and she is such a good traveler these days. we hooked up the ipad to the headrest of the acura. sesame street and mickey mouse clubhouse... not a peep out of her. what a dream carride! i don't know if she knows something is up but she has been extra sweet and adorable this week. she wants me to be even sadder that i'm leaving her, huh? kids sense that stuff. my mom arrives at 6:45pm. can't wait. can't wait.

so instead, i'll post some pictures of Annie from Addy's first birthday.  Enjoy.

this is absolutely a "tootie" face

anthony's plan

Yall, babycenter emails are always on point!
Remember my rant on Monday... Look at this week's email-
Toddlers live large, play hard, and love big. When they get upset, they can start acting irrationally, just like adults do. And they often use emotional outbursts to clear out the bad feelings — which may feel good to them but isn't always easy for you. Before losing your cool, remember that your child's lack of self-control is normal and that he'll eventually learn what's socially acceptable by the way you and others react to his antics. Try to respond calmly and enforce the limits you've set so things don't escalate.
So it's Noooorrrrmmmmmmaaaalllllllll.

I love being the parent of a beautiful and sassy little toddler (well 98% of the time… <<i can say that>>)

The countdown continues for NOLA weekend. I'm making my list and then making another list and another, then another. and then keeping a list of all of my list.
Anthony called to give me the plan for tonight. (He always says the perfect thing) So here is his plan for the evening (in his words)... get home and play with Annie. Bike ride and play in the garden until mom gets home. Feed the Toot over a glass of wine. Then bath and bed for Toot. Salad for dinner. More wine. Then pack for NOLA and watch Modern Family. Finish crafts, preview slideshow, drink more wine. Dance to Michael Buble. And finish with a skinny cow in bed.

Wow... He made my night sound delightful. Can't wait to get home!!

i smell a guest bedroom revamp...

love a quilt bedspread (ida taught me that)

what is up with the taupe backside?
hmmm.. second thoughts.

blog-n-me

i'm addicted to blogging. everyone updating their blogs.. dElIghtfUl. new backgrounds and colors and pictures.. lOvE It! i love the little bits and pieces of life that is shared on blogs. it is a therapy session, a comedic relief, a back patting, uplifting, reassurance that "you are not alone", and an inspiration board for the life you want to live.

i'm in the final countdown to the baby shower. yall, i'm going to pull it off! and these women are going to be sooooo impressed with me.. like "you made that?!?" and "how did you think of that?" and "how are you so creative?".. and i'll just smile and say that i owe it all to the girls feeding me inspiration everyday on blogs (say this to myself oDDviously, because we don't give away our secrets -EVER- unless you are in the club). the end.

i want to plan a SS trip this fall. a trip before we start getting knocked up again. i'm thinking beach trip. it's just what i believe in. florabama is where the magic happens. i don't know why. but it is what NOLA people do. i met a guy last night and i asked him where he was from. he said "the #1 vacation spot for new orleanians, Pensacola..." hahaha so true. and i hearted him for the rest of the night.

i'm working on it

it was a good weekend, and it was great being with friends in the gorgeous weather. but it might have been too much for me and annie. we were a bit on the fussy mcfusster side of life. annie got completely off schedule. and i realized this weekend that my tolerance level decreases at an exponential rate when annie gets fussy. all of the sudden i have no patience and i'm spewing hatred to my beloved husband for no reason. who acts like that??? oh, me... more on this in a bit.

quick weekend recap.
friday night byob at wood fire pizza in our neighborhood. quite delicious. we put the girls to bed then sat on the back patio and drank wine and talked politics.
saturday morning i got a boob job. not really, just 2 new bras (finally) and a sports bra. they were 50% off too. then went to suzanne's to swim. tootie's first swim of the summer. she really like daddy throwing her in the air and swimming around with her. he always knows how to get smiles. and she really liked dancing to jimmy buffet with sissy. i wish i had video of that! so cute.
sunday mass while dolly kept annie. and then we went to the zoo with the sommers. annie LOVED it. she is old enough to get it. like look at the elephants and do the "what does an elephant say" sort of thing. perfect weather for the zoo too.

ok, so back to me having no patience and having internal/external meltdowns. i need to stop having the expectation that everything needs to be perfect. annie is going to get fussy. she is toddler. that is what toddlers do. it is just hard for me to adjust. example: we went to eat at Escalante's yesterday after the zoo, and i have an anxiety attack trying to keep annie from being too loud/fussy at the restaurant. i'm shoving a pacifier in her mouth, giving her the straw to dip in the cup of water, just whatever i can do. actually, thinking about it, it wasn't fair for us to put annie in that situation and expect her to sit still. she was cooped up in the wagon at the zoo, not on her usual nap schedule, hungry, tired. now sit right here for an hour... i think we try to maintain a sense of "normalcy" and fun that might be unrealistic. the ole "a baby needs to adjust to your life and schedule, not you adjust to the baby's" thing. no, i need to adjust. i need to adjust my expectation levels. i need to cut back on doing so many things over the weekend with a toddler. i need to be more flexible and don't sweat the small stuff. so many things i need to do to be at better person, a better mom. i'm working on it.

double triple oreos?

Wednesday, May 11, 2011, 10:08pm:
laying in bed. i am wide awake. anthony is sound asleep next to me. i'm jealous. i get the ipad and do some "shopping" (add things to the "cart" but don't actually buy)... piperlime earrings and shoes. white linen shorts from old navy.

go to the houzz app. found these. i love that my house and taste are ever changing. i'm obsessed with collages. remember the collage i had on my wall when i was in high school. so this is nothing new.

decide to read on the kindle app. emily post, "etiquette". seriously want to take an etiquette class. dream about being a perfect southern belle...

the flag banners and bow tie cupcake toppers came out adorable. i also made a few fans similar to what gig did for my birthday and those came out adorable. i've really enjoyed doing all of it! lots of paper, cutting, stringing, gluing. i can't wait to see it all put together. maybe that is why i was so wired when i went to bed last night.

this morning as i'm pulling out of the neighborhood to head to work, anthony calls me and says he is coming home from work because he isn't feeling well. poor guy. boys can't handle being sick. they turn into big babies. did you take medicine? no...what should i take? did you eat something? no...what should i eat? etc etc etc. love you, babe. feel better.

i heard on the radio this morning that they are making triple double Oreos! not that i ever ever allow myself to buy or eat Oreos, but this made me very very excited. and on that note, i've tracked all week AND stayed in my points.

back to piperlime... they have a brand called "tinley road". fantastic jewelry and clothes reasonably priced! earrings above are $28. You're welcome.

birthday wishes and cupcake dreams

i had such a fun time at dinner last night. we "surprised" jessica at Lucio's BYOB restaurant for her burfday! such a fun monday evening treat.. (i think she knew we were coming though) the food was delicious! i've only been there one other time and it was yet again fantastic. and i brought some cupcakes from Treat (the northwest version of Crave). oh so sinful and crazy sweet goodness. and the complete and total enjoyment of jessica, josh, sarah, john and aj. i never knew what a funny man John Schnure was. he cracks me up! i assume many people probably already know this about him, but i just guess every time the group gets together i never had a chance to just sit and listen to him crack jokes because it is always boys in one room, girls in the other. also, come to find out john is my movie/tv show twin. a little tosh, a few documentaries.. lucky girl, sari.

my major project is winding down, which makes it very hard to work. it is like those last few chores you have on your to-do list that you just have no interest in doing... so you put them off. that is what is going on right now.

and now on to shower talk..
i'm trying to figure out if this craft idea for catherine's shower is even possible. i want to have iron on appliques of bowties and ties precut and then let guest iron them on to white bibs. i've seen this same idea done on a blog i read... but where do you get the super cute iron on fabric from to make the appliqués? or do i have to just use regular fabric and do some sort of adhesive to the back of it? it just seems like a lot of work, and what if they don't even come out cute. i don't want to spend a lot of time and money on this for it not to be perfect. OK... i just re-read the blog and it said they selected the fabrics and applied heat and bond to the back. then let the guest cut out the design they wanted (in my case i will precut bow ties and neck ties instead), peel off the paper backing and iron it in place. then finish by zigzag stitching the edges. fair enough. looks like i'm going to hobby lobby for lunch.

i forgot to send a major shout out to Dolly and Scott who babysat Annie last night while we went to dinner.  unfortunately, Annie got sick last night and threw up all over Dolly, the crib, the rug, the white bath mats in the bathroom and shower curtain.  Dolly cleaned it all!!!  and then my laundry detergent bottle exploded on her.  when we got home she had the washing machine pulled out and cleaning behind it. like who does that?  cleans up another child's throw up??? she is an angel.  and truly a blessing to me and anthony.  i'm just in awe over it.  and btw Annie was fine this morning.  so i don't know if what she ate didn't agree with her, or she was overly tired, or what. thankfully it was a one time deal.

Thank you Sarah Schnure for prompting me to the hipstamatic app for the iPhone. Life looks so much better documented on 1970's film.
Here are the weekend shots.

fiesta fiesta

cinco de mayo. i wish i could have a theme song for each blog that would play when you read it.  that would be so fun. i'm wearing a bright pink sweater shirt today. my attempt at being festive. i actually bought this shirt from the gap in '04 -'05-ish for a wedding shower i threw for joseph bruno.  it was fiesta themed and hosted at the greenhaven house.  what a great house....
i wear black on black usually everyday to work.  sometimes i switch to a white shirt or brown slacks, but i usually never wear color.  it is just what i believe in. but with this pink on today, i'm feeling pretty fresh and cute.  maybe i need to bring some color back to work.  we'll see.

i rereading the book "rhythm of life".  with so many things to remember about being the best version of yourself, i decided i needed a refresher course. I've listened to this book twice now.  But now i'm going back and marking the pages in the book that i seem to need to read often. shall i post some inserts from the book?
i have lots of books in the que to read.  don't you love putting your pj's on, getting in bed and tucking the covers down in a perfect fold over, turning your bedside lamp on and reading a book before you go to bed at night??  I do!!  I feel really smitten about it when i do.  like ooh look at me, i'm so mature because i read in bed.  haha.  so many little things make me happy.

want to come over tonight? i'm making margaritas and we are ordering shady mexican food from the restaurant down the street.  its going to be a good time.  and i don't mean to brag, but i make really good margaritas.

a little post script.. i've yet again put myself in a funny little situation... one of my guy co-worker's asked if i would host a jewelry party for his mom.  she sells park lane jewelry.  being that  my circle of friends is completely tapped out on jewelry parties.. i told him i would do a little jewelry display in my office for her.  soooo we just set it up after lunch and now people are stopping in my office to ask what the hell is going on!  And then i have to explain the story and then say "well if you spend $30, you get another piece of equal or less value for free".  Yes, i'm just way too nice around here.

home is my heart

Just got in from happy hour. Good times were had but I'm glad I'm home. I just went upstairs and watched Annie sleep for a few minutes. I'm so silly to say this but I'm awestruck that Anthony and I made such a perfect thing. It still amazes me that we made a human. I put another person on this earth. Boozey talk, I know. But I just felt it in my bones looking at her tonight.

And to walk in the door to Anthony standing there with the pups...asking me if I want an oatmeal pie because he "just ate one and they are delicious". True love. Some people don't have this. Some people don't want to leave happy hour. Sad sad.

nightmares

I’ve been having nightmares; usually about Annie getting hurt. What is up with that???? It is so annoying!
Ever since Annie was born these terrible dreams come and go. Anyone know how to make them stop?

example... Saturday night I dreamed Annie kept falling into a pool. Obviously this came from her swimming Saturday afternoon. But I literally jumped out of bed to go rescue her, and then realize I’m dreaming annndd sleep walking, then would go back to sleep and have the same dream again. ugh.

Last night I kept dreaming Annie was getting mosquito bites all over her face! And also that the fumes from the game room were poisoning her!

Yall I'm crazy. For goodness sakes, how can I stop these nightmares about my child getting hurt?

where did the weekend go??

Wait a minute.... It's Sunday night, I'm laying in bed, exhausted. But it feels like the weekend was over too soon. I hate when that happens. We did have a great weekend, it just felt really short.

Friday night was quite lazy. We put fussy britches to bed early (30 min nap for the whole day equals very very fussy toddler at 6pm). Then we just laid around like walruses for the night. Saturday was nonstop from the time we woke up. We headed down to Pearland around 9am for Taylor's third birthday party. She had a princess space walk that Annie LOVED! I was a little nervous that she wasnt quite old enough to hang with the big kids, but she was fine. She actually loved seeing the older kids jumping and then trying to mimic them. Adorable. Hot dogs, cake, ice cream, strawberries and juice boxes...aka a toddler's paradise. (side note to pat myself on the back for being the best mom...It worked out perfect that Annie's morning nap happened on the way down to Pearland and afternoon nap on the way back. Holla). Then we went to a crawfish boil where there was a pool for Annie to swim. It wasnt so fun for anthony and I to be the lifeguards for this new fearless child of ours who will literally walk straight off the edge of the pool. Not to mention keeping her ears semi-dry. Crawfish were good and I did do a shot of Patron in a shot glass made of ice. Sooo the ole girl still can have some fun. Hahaha.

Today we woke up and went to church and brunch while Dolly watched the girls. Bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, Bellinis. And stuffed French toast with bananas. Holy holy. I just made my mouth water from saying it again.
So we played in the splash pool at the Sommers house for the rest of the day and had Shala's famous eggplant parm for dinner.
2 glasses of chianti. The end. Roll me over and pat my bottom because I'm done.

Let's set some goals this week. Ok, eat healthy (always sounds so great and promising on a Sunday night). Exercise 3 nights. Uh-huh. Enjoy Annie. Appreciate my amazing husband. Skype with grannie. Choose wisely. And live in the light.
So promising.

God is love,
Rev Run
